Instrumentalization of Laayoune events by Spanish media laid bare before European officials

Brussels - The lawyers of the Moroccan citizens, subject of false information spread by Spanish TV channel "Antena 3" and "Europa Press" news agency on Laayoune events, informed, on Wednesday in Brussels, a number of European officials about the falsification of facts by some Spanish media

    Following a meeting with the President of the Maghreb delegation at the European Parliament Pier Antonio Panzeri, the lawyer of the Rachidi family, Abdelkebir Tabih, underlined that this meeting provided an opportunity to present the case of his clients, which lays bare the maneuvers of "Antena 3".

    The Spanish TV channel had deliberately used a photo of a crime to which the family had been victim, published by Moroccan daily "Al Ahdat Al Maghribia" last January, claiming that it was taken during the unrest in Laayoune (Morocco's south).

    According to Tabih, Panzeri told the lawyers that all the information he was given would be examined carefully, as the aim of the meeting was to hear stories on Laayoune events.  

    The Moroccan delegation also met Deputy Director and Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Debiolley Humbert, to inform him about the exploitation of "Antena 3" and "Europa Press" of a family tragedy for political ends. 

    The European official promised the delegation to submit a report on the meeting to the Council of Europe.
