Brussels - Belgian State Minister, Philippe Moureaux, described as "very serious and scandalous" the information spread by some Spanish media outlets, reporting alive people as dead in Laayoune events During a meeting, held on Wednesday in Brussels, with the lawyers of the victims of the Spanish media manipulation, Moureaux said that the information spread by "Antena 3' TV channel and "Europa Press' news agency represent an "unfortunate manipulation".
"It is absolutely unacceptable to link a common law crime to Laayoune events", underlined the minister, who is also vice-president of the Belgian Socialist Party and a Federal senator.
The official, who is well informed of the Moroccan Sahara issue, voiced his "shock" over the Spanish media's manipulation of the tragic events that took place in Laayoune, deploring the "unjust and partial" resolution adopted by the European Parliament, based on false information that stirred the Spanish and European public opinion.
According to him, "the fallacious information and photos manipulated by these media outlets explain the hasty and unjust vote for a resolution against Morocco, without hearing the different parties to the artificial regional conflict over the Sahara".
Moureaux, who is also the mayor of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, lauded the development achieved in Morocco's southern provinces, notably in the city of Laayoune, which he visited many times.
